Preparation. Mohr's salt is prepared by dissolving an equimolar mixture of hydrated ferrous sulfate and ammonium sulfate in water containing a little sulfuric acid, and then subjecting the resulting solution to crystallization.

Thanks

Mohr's salt /ferrous ammonium sulphate formula : (NH4)2Fe(SO4)2.6H2O

Mohr's salt is prepared by mixing equimolar concentrations of hydrated ferrous sulfate and ammonium sulfate in water in presence of sulphuric acid, followed by crystallization of the remaining solution. Ferrous ammonium sulphate gives rise to light green crystals.

Procedure:

1. 7g of FeSO4 and 3.5g of (NH4)2SO4 crystals are transfered to a beaker. 2.3 ml of dilute H2SO4 is then added( done to prevent hydrolysis).

2. 20 ml of water is boiled separately in another beaker for 5 minutes (purpose is to expand air)

3. The boiling hot water is then gradually and slowly added to the mixture content. Mixture is stirred till complete dissolving takes place.

4. The resultant mixture is then filtered and filtrate is heated till it concentrates to its crystallization point. The dish is then placed over the beaker containing cold water and cooled to collect the light green crystals.
