Specific heat capacity:

The amount of energy required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of substance to 1°C of temperature.

Specific heat capacity of water:

The water has high heat capacity compared to all other substances in earth. This means more energy is required to increase the heat of the water. The water takes longer time to change its temperature.

The heat capacity of the water plays a dominant role in temperature of the environment and climate. The land mass takes up the water very quickly. During day times, the temperature makes the water and land to absorb heat. The land takes the heat quickly whereas the water takes it slowly.

The water becomes hot only when the sun sets in which time the land becomes cool. This opposite temperature of the water and land helps the land to go from extreme temperatures.
