As covalent bonds are having low intermolecular forces of attraction as compared to that of ionic bonds

Ionic bond have strong inter ionic attraction , so a considerable heat is required to break the bond.That's why it have high melting point.
Covalent have weak inter ionic attraction as compared to ionic bond , so it need less heat which means low melting point .
