hi there ,

India is long for discrimination with lower casts since long. Social interactions have been restricted amongst people of different castes such as marriages are conducted within own castes. There are restrictions on the use of public places and temples for lower castes and even there are restrictions on sharing foods and water. Dalits the lowest of all castes that is referred to as "untouchables" has been defined in the Indian Constitution of 1950 as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. Though there have been efforts to minimize discrimination at government level. Policies have been formulated that mandate minimum levels of SC/ST representation in local and state governments, universities and public sector employment)

Caste System in India

In India, caste system is an exceptional social order. Different theories exist which define Caste. According to some theories caste system in India is the result of Hindu religious order called Varna, which literally means color. The other theories say that caste is in essential the endogamous group of people mostly called as Jati (Karve, 1961). Jati is a racial flock of a group of people. It is can be said equivalent to tribe or gotra.

Education

The caste discrimination in the area of education is rooted in the ancestral texts in which for each caste a code of conduct has been prescribed and even today there are many religious rituals performed according to these texts. According to these texts, the members of low castes are not allowed to listen to the words of Vedas or religious hymens.

Gender

Gender discrimination is present in almost all developing countries. There is evidence that girls are maltreated, have lower rates of inoculation against infectious disease and they are much likely to die by treatable childhood disease (Pande, 2003). In addition they are given less chances to attain education. This discrimination is mostly the result of poverty when a household cannot afford expenses of education for a child that child is usually a girl.

Answer:

Prejudice refers to the feelings accumulated in a person, due to which he has positive and negative tendencies towards a person or group. In general, during social development, prejudice is formed in the mind of the person based on the circumstances in which he thrives. The things or persons in which he benefits in childhood see him positively; At the same time, negative tendencies arise in his mind about the things about which he is told incorrectly. A person affected by prejudice, being ignorant of reality, starts behaving discriminately towards particular groups and people. Problems related to this can be seen in the following forms -

Prejudice in a patriarchal society generates an inferiority complex towards women. This leaves women behind in social development and social crimes like discrimination, sexual violence, domestic violence are committed against them.

Similarly, a major cause of racial discrimination is prejudice. It is also racial discrimination at the root of the massacre of Jews by the Nazis in Germany and bad behavior towards blacks in America before World War II.

Discrimination on the basis of caste has been a major problem in our country. At the root of caste-based discrimination and exploitation is the mindset of prejudice.

Similarly, at the root of the problem of communalism, a sense of prejudice towards people of other religions also works.

Prejudice based discrimination can be controlled through the use of legal, statutory, psychological and behavioral sciences etc. Under the legal-statutory provisions, there have been provisions for punishment for protesting on the basis of religion, sex, race, place of birth etc.

But opposition to prejudice based on punishment is not a permanent solution to the problem of prejudice. The problem of prejudice can be solved permanently by psychological and behavioral science. Under this, measures such as role play and change of reference group can be taken. To solve the problem of prejudice, scientific education based on logic and spread of morality and humanitarian feelings is also necessary.
