● 1-hexyne from ethyne -
Ethyne is first treated with 1 mole of sodium amide to form ethynide ion.
CH≡CH + NaNH2 ---> CH≡C-

This ethynide ion on further addition reaction with bromobutane gives 1-hexyne.
CH≡C- + CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-Br ---> CH≡C-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3 + Br-

This reaction is called alkylation of terminal alkyne.
