Ferric chloride (anhydrous) 2.0276 g was dissolved in double distilled water, containing a little free acid and was diluted to 250 ml to get 0.05 M stock solution of ferric chloride. This solution was standardised gravimetrically . Experimental solutions of required concentrations were prepared by appropriate dilution of the above stock solution. Fe(III) was found to form purple coloured ethanol soluble complex in pH range of 2.0 to 4.5. It was not found possible to do gravimetric determination of Fe(III), using the reagent.

hope it helps you
