friction is a contacting force which opposes the relative motion of bodies. friction is directly proportional to normal reaction .
e.g., fr\propto N
fr=\mu N
here \mu is proportionality constant, which is known as coefficient of friction. higher the coefficient of friction , higher will be frictional force.
coefficient of friction depends on roughness of surface. higher the roughness of surface , higher will be coefficient of friction and then higher will be frictional force.

so, we have to reduce roughness of surface to reduce fractional force.

1. we can reduce friction force acting on the contacting surface using marvel, tiles.

2. oils are also responsible to reduce friction force.

3. many lubricants like graphite are useful to reduce friction force.

4. Reduce the forces acting on the surfaces. The stronger the forces acting on the surfaces, the higher the friction, so reducing the forces would reduce the friction.

5. Reduce the contact between the surfaces , as you know , friction is directly proportional to contacting force (e.g., normal reaction) , Lowe the contacting force , lower will be frictional force.

Friction: The force that holds the relative motion of the solids, fluids and other materials sliding against each other is referred to as frictional force.

There are four types of friction. They are,

  • Static
  • Sliding
  • Rolling
  • Fluid friction

Methods to reduce friction:

  • Smooth surfaces: The smooth surfaces does not resist and motion and so the friction is also reduced.
  • Lubrication: Lubrication enables in the easier displacement of objects.
  • Streamlined shape: By making the object streamlined, the fiction is reduced as it allows the flow easily.
  • Reduce forces: The forces acting on the materials can be reduced in order to reduce friction.
  • Contact surfaces: The shape of the contact surface can be made in the shape of a sphere so that it reduces the friction.
