Food is the basic requirement for every living being ,They depend on plants and animals for food. Ancient men began the cultivation of food in a small area and used certain procedures for their management and improvement .This art of cultivation of crop is called agriculture .

1)preparation of soil

The preparation of soil is the first step before growing a crop. one of the most important tasks in agriculture is to turn the soil and loosen it. This allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil.

2)sowing

sowing is an important part of crop production. Before sowing, good quality, clean and healthy seeds of a good variety are selected. Farmers prefer to use seeds which give high yield.

3)Manuring

plants require certain minerals, called plant nutrients,for proper growth,.There are at least 16 nutrients by plants. These nutrients can be broadly classified into two groups.

a) Macronutrients

Elements such as carbon, hydrogen, calcium, sulphur etc are called Macronutrients as they are required in large amounts.

b)Micronutrients

Elements such as iron, copper, boron, zinc etc are called Micronutrients as they are required in smaller quantities.

4)Irrigation

irrigation is the supply of water. Irrigation is the artificial supply of water to crops when needed. sources of water can be canals, wells, dams, ponds etc.

5)Weeding

weeds are unwanted plants which grow among crops. They are removed by using weedicides .

6)Harvesting

Harvesting is the cutting and gathering of mature crop from fields.

7)Storage

Food products obtained from crops have to be preserved and stored for future use.
