Mining is the process of extracting ores from the earth’s surface.

Some of the mining areas of Jharkhand are Hazaribag, Chatra, Palamau, Dhanbad, Rajmahal and Ranchi.

The different hazards and environmental impact of the coalfields are:

A. Land degradation- It is the biggest drawback.

B. Loss of terrestrial biodiversity- Some of the plants have extinct.  

C. Exposed hazards and toxic substances- Distribution of sulphur in the environment due to mining is harmful.

D.Water Pollution- The contaminated water results in the killing of animals and people.
