Sufism is of significance in India, hence sufism is taught in secondary level of education. Hence, there is hardly any student in India who does not know that the sufi saint Kabir, was a weaver.

The Sufi Saint Kabir was adopted by a weaver couple and he later took up the same profession as his foster parents. He was known for his enlightened thoughts which were composed in couplet in poetic form. He questioned the religious malpractices of Hindus and Muslims and talked about the true religious knowledge and teachings. He was accused of being blasphemous but no one could question his truthful teachings as everyone could relate to them one way or the other.
