New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the historic Red Fort at about 7.10 am and unfurled the national flag. He was accompanied by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the three service chiefs. Earlier, PM Modi visited Rajghat at paid tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. He had asked for ideas and suggestions from citizens for his Independence Day 2018 speech. The PMO reportedly received over 30,000 suggestions from citizens across the country.
Dressed in a white kurta and a saffron turban, PM Narendra Modi unfurled the flag at the 17th-century monument on the backdrop of a 21-gun salute. This is PM Modi's fifth address from the Red Fort since he became the Prime Minister. This is also his last speech in his tenure as the Prime Minister under the present dispensation before the country goes to elections in 2019.
