Solution :-

Let us Assume that :-

  • initial No. of seats in cinema hall = x
  • Price of Movie Ticket = Rs. 100

Given That :-

  • Price is Decreased by 2%
  • Total revenue is increased by = 83(1/3)% = (250/3)% = (5/6) th times
  • sitting capacity is now increased by = 350

we know that :-

  • Price * consumption = Total Revenue.

So,

100 * x = 100x = Initial Total revenue.

Than,

New Revenue = 100x + (5/6 of 100x) = 100x + (250x/3) = (550x/3)

And,

New Price of Ticket = 100 - (2% of 100) = Rs.98 .

Also,

Total No. of New seats = (x + 350)

Therefore,

Price * consumption = Total Revenue.

→ 98 * (x + 350) = (550x/3)

→ 98*3*(x + 350) = 550x

→ 294x + 294*350 = 550

→ 550x - 294x = 294*350

→ 256x = 294*350

→ x = (294*350)/256

→ x ≈ 401 .

Hence, initial there were 401 seats in the cinema hall.
