complete Question :- Price of the sugar is increased by 3% as a result there will be fall in sugar consumption of 2.5% . The expenditure of the family on sugar will be decreased by ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that,

  • Initial cost price of sugar = Rs.10/kg
  • Initial consumption = 10kg .

we know that,

  • Price * consumption = Expenditure .

so,

  • Initial Expenditure = 10 * 10 = Rs.100 .

now,

→ New cost Price = 103% of initial price = (103 * 10)/100 = Rs.10.3

and,

→ New consumption = 97.5% of initial consumption = (97.5 * 10)/100 = 9.75 kg

then,

→ New Expenditure = New cost Price * New consumption = 10.3 * 9.75 = Rs.100.425

therefore,

→ Increased in Expenditure = New Expenditure - Initial Expenditure = 100.425 - 100 = Rs.0.425

hence,

→ % change in Expenditure = (0.425 * 100) / 100 = 0.425% (Ans.)

New Expenditure is increased by 0.425% .
