Princess Anna decides to make a birthday cake for Queen Elsa’s birthday! Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven all add a different ingredient. When the cake mix has been combined, there is 1/4 of the flour left over, 1/3 of the butter, 1/2 of the sugar and 5/8 of the eggs. Anna used the most of her ingredient and Olaf used the least of his. Kristoff used more than Sven. Who used the sugar?

This question is testing the comparison of fractions to find the sizes.

INGREDIENTS REMAINING :

Sugar = 1/2

Flour = 1/4

Butter = 1/3

Eggs = 5/8

INGREDIENTS USED :

Sugar = 1 - 1/2 = 1/2

Flour = 1 - 1/4 = 3/4

Butter = 1 - 1/3 = 2/3

Eggs = 1 - 5/8 = 3/8

To compare this fractions we get the common denominator by getting the LCM of the denominators. The LCM is 24.

Thus Ingredients used are:

Sugar = 12/24 Flour = 18/24 Butter = 16/24 Eggs = 9/24

The most ingredient used is obtained from the largest fraction which is:

18/24 - Flour

The least ingredient used is obtained from the smallest fraction which is :

9/24 - Eggs.

When we compare the Rama in ingredients 2 that is sugar and butter we realize :

16/24 > 12/24

Thus butter used is more than sugar used.

From the question Anna used the most ingredient which is FLOUR as shown above.

Olaf used least which is EGGS as shown above.

Kristoff used more than Sven and from above Butter is more than sugar for the two remaining ingredients.

Thus :

Kristoff's ingredient is BUTTER and Sven's ingredient is SUGAR.
