Dear Friend
I hope this letter finds you in soaring spirits and vibrant health. I am writing this letter to share with you a very important lesson of life. The lesson is observing the values of etiquette, ethics, decency, decorum and respect for seniors.
This lesson has been beautifully taught in a chapter in our Literature Reader. The name of the chapter is ‘The Man Who Knew Too Much’. The key character, Private Quelch is a boastful man, who on account of his flaw has to feel embarrassed. He is so impudent that he does not hesitate interrupting his instructors during the training session. One day he meets his match in Corporal Turnbull. He just gives him one chance; but even then he does not mend his ways. As a punishment for his boastful attitude and impudence, he assigns him the permanent duties of the cook in the kitchen of the mess.
I learnt from the chapter that we must always be humble in life. We must not be arrogant to our elders, especially our teachers and seniors. We must also be decent, polite, courteous, and decorous. These are great traits of a gentleman. I hope you will also develop and nurture these traits and values in your demeanour. The rest is fine. I will be visiting you next month. Give regards to uncle and aunt.
Yours affectionately,
