Repeated droughts forced the farmers to overuse water which in turn depleted the groundwater level.Since the availability of water declines ,the sustenance of food crops reduces thereby leading the farmers family to starve and if this continues then comes the famine.  Also without water the families would start using water from contaminated sources thereby making them sick.
