Answer :

The two Kingdom system was proposed by Linnaeus in 1758.

This system classified organisms into two kingdoms namely Plantae and Animalia.

The problems or drawbacks related to two kingdom classification was -

  • The Prokaryotes (like bacteria and cyanobacteria) and the eukaryotes (like fungi, mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms) were included under 'Plants' based on the presence of cell wall. But the features of both prokaryotes and eukaryotes are really different from each other.

  • The unicellular and multicellular organisms were in the same group. Example - The Chlamydomonas and Spirogyra were placed under Algae.

  • It did not differentiate between heterotrophic and autotrophic green plants. That is, photosynthetic and non photosynthetic organisms were not differentiated. Also, Fungi have chitinous cell wall whereas green plants have cellulose cell wall.

Hence, these were the problems related to two kingdom classification.
