→The process of removing contaminants from water is called sewage treatment.
→It involves 5 steps :
1) The wastewater is passed through bar screens to remove large object like sticks, cans, etc...
2) The speed of the incoming water decreases when it reaches GRIT and SAND removal tank to allow sand, grit, and pebbles to settle down.
3)Sludge is being removed by a scraper when it reaches a large tank which is sloped towards middle. A skimmer removes float-able solids like oil and grease. Water cleared is called Clarified water.
4)The separated sludge is transferred to another tank and is decomposed by anaerobic bacteria.
5) Air is pumped to clarified water to help anaerobic bacteria which consume human waste, food waste, etc...
