Answer:

1.Biology is science territory.Science is what quantifiable by senses-bare or equipped, repeatedly and reproducible universally.

2.Thoughts don't fulfill these criteria, hence we put under newer territory, called metaphysics.Mind is the tool to approach this territory.(senses however equipped alone can't approach thought in any way.)

But,mind follows different set of laws, other than that of senses,it can't provide any explanation in way & terminology used by science. Here is the root origin of your questions.

3.This,today,we don't have any biological explanation of thought/thinking.For example,you know anger(thoughts)has raised blood pressure,which is biological(scientific)phenomenon,

quantifiable by equipped senses(BP machine & stethoscope),and it follows set of laws of physics, but, knowing anger as cause for high blood pressure doesn't offer any biological explanation of thought, except identifying few chemicals in blood(in turn,it is scientific event)

4.As we are, humans follow different three sets of laws, namely, law of physics, for physical constituents, where tool is sense ,law of metaphysics, for psychic constituents(like thoughts & emotions),where tool is mind, and law of spiritual, for conscious constituents(like awareness),where tool is cconsciousness.

5.Given territory can only be explained by relevant set of laws.

I hope this helps you
