How petrol & diesel can be separated?

Petrol and diesel can be separated by using the methhod of distillation. While separating petrol and diesel from their mixture using distillation the mixture is kept in a fractionating column. The one with lowest boiling points evaporate first and goes to the higher level followed by condensation at lower temperature.
