Correct Question :

Product and sum of zeroes a polynomial p(y) =y² + (m + 3) y + (m - 5) are equal then m is ?

ANSWER :

GIVEN :

Polynomial p(y) = y² + (m + 3)y + (m - 5).

• Product and sum of zeroes a polynomial are equal.

TO FIND :

• Value of 'm' = ?

SOLUTION :

• We know that –

  \\ \implies\bf Sum \: \: of \: \: zeroes = - \dfrac{Coefficient \: \: of \: \: x}{Coefficient \: \: of \: \: {x}^{2} } \\

  \\ \implies\bf S= - \dfrac{(m + 3)}{1} \\

  \\ \implies\bf S= -(m + 3) \: \: \: \: \: \: - - - - eq.(1)\\

• And –

  \\ \implies\bf Product \: \: of \: \: zeroes = \dfrac{Constant \: \: term}{Coefficient \: \: of \: \: {x}^{2} } \\

  \\ \implies\bf P= \dfrac{(m -5)}{1} \\

  \\ \implies\bf P=(m-5) \: \: \: \: \: \: - - - - eq.(2)\\

• By eq.(1) & eq.(2) –

  \\ \longrightarrow \:\:\:\:\:\large {\underline{\underline{\bf S=P}}}\\

  \\ \implies\bf -(m + 3)=(m-5)\\

  \\ \implies\bf -m - 3=m-5\\

  \\ \implies\bf -m -m=3-5\\

  \\ \implies\bf -2m= - 2\\

  \\ \implies \large{ \boxed{\bf m=1}}\\
