- When urea is heated at 168°, it gives biuret and ammonia.
- The reaction occurs as follows -
2NH2-CO-NH2 ---> NH2-CO-NH-CO-NH2 + NH3
- This reaction takes place in two simple steps -
NH2-CO-NH2 ---> NH3 + NH=CO
NH=CO + NH2-CO-NH2 ---> NH2-CO-NH-CO-NH2
