Answer: Helium, neon, krypton, argon, xenon, and radon are the six main inert gases. Inert gases also include nitrogen gas and carbon dioxide, however, they are compounds rather than elemental gases.

Explanation: They have a reputation for having very little chemical reactivity. This is because all inert gases have stable electron configurations, are typically found as monatomic gases, and are difficult to convert into molecules. Ns2 np6 is the typical noble gas arrangement.

Application of Inert Gases-

  • Helium is used for the treatment of asthma, emphysema and other breathing problems. It is also used in Ballons , welding etc.

  • Neon was used in television tubes. Neon is also used in cryogenics. it is used in signboards as on passing electricity it glows brightly. Neon is used in lasers, wave meter tubes etc.

  • Krypton is used in tubes of fluorescent lights, flash lamps, signboards, electromagnetic calorimeters, etc.

  • Argon is used to create an inert atmosphere. It is used for the production of titanium. it can also be used in welding. there are number of things in which it is used such as Light bulbs, tires, double-glazed windows, etc.

  • Xenon is used in photographic flashes, and high-pressure arc lamps, It is also used in spacecraft and NMR Spectroscopy.

  • Radon is a chemically inert but radioactive element. It is used in cancer therapy, the treatment of tumors, and radiation therapy. It is also used in hydrological research. earthquake prediction etc.
