Answer:

( If the project is about 2 to3 page then begin with what is DNA and how it can be used to identify someone's hereditary characters.)

Explanation:

DNA is the chemical name for the molecule that carries genetic instructions in all living things. The DNA molecule consists of two strands that wind around one another to form a shape known as a double helix. Each strand has a backbone made of alternating sugar (deoxyribose) and phosphate groups. A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. DNA strand include many genes. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules or to give you a characteristic feature like hair color, skin color etc.

It was until 20 years ago that Sir Alec Jeffreys, professor and geneticist at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom (UK), who discovered the technique of DNA fingerprinting.

DNA fingerprinting is a laboratory technique used to establish a link between biological evidence and a suspect in a criminal investigation. A DNA sample taken from a crime scene is compared with a DNA sample from a suspect. If the two DNA profiles are a match, then the evidence came from that suspect.

The DNA testing process is comprised of four main steps, including extraction, quantitation, amplification, and capillary electrophoresis.

Since it was invented in 1984, DNA fingerprinting most often has been used in court cases and legal matters. It can: Physically connect a piece of evidence to a person or rule out someone as a suspect. Show who your parents, siblings, and other relatives may be. ( forensic reports)
