Scene 1..

Antonio is expressing his sadness to his friends Salarino and Solanio and saying that he did know the proper cause of his sadness .

Then Salarino and Solanio are suspecting different causes for his sadness..

After some moments his best friend Bassanio with his two friends arrived.

They chatted for some moments and all departed leaving Antonio and Bassanio Alone.

Bassanio asked Antonio for money as he wants to win Portia but Antonio said that he did not have money at that moment so he assured Bassanio to borrow some money from others on his Credit.
