When iron(fillings) and sulphur are mixed together, a mixture is formed. If we bring a magnet near the mixture, the iron(fillings) cling to it and if the mixture is put in carbon disulphide the sulphur dissolves leaving iron behind.
This shows that the mixture shows the properties of its constituents
But if the mixture is grinded and heated, a compound is formed. If a magnet is brought near the compound, iron doesn't cling to it and if it is put in carbon disulphide the sulphur doesn't dissolve.
This shows that the compound doesn't show the properties of its constituents.
