Ionic compound

The overall neutral compound that are formed by the the combination of a cation and anion are known as ionic compounds. Here 1 atom donates a pair of electron while other accept that donated pair . Therefore polarity can be seen.

Properties

  • They are basically the good conductors of electricity but only and dissolved state.

  • They have extremely high boiling and melting points due to strong force of attraction acting between them however it is quite hard to break this bond and numerous heat energy is required.

  • They have have extremely high enthalpy of fusion.

  • They show properties like brittleness.

  • They also have high enthalpy of vaporization.
