Due to hyperconjugation Propene is more stable than ethylene . Effects of hyperconjugation on the stability......?? Propene contains more carbon atoms with the comparison of ethylene , so Propene is more stable than ethylene

  • The structure of propene is H_3C-CH=CH_2 and ethene is CH_2=CH_2.
  • So, propene contains three alpha hydrogens that take part in hyperconjugation and give three hyper conjugative structures.
  • Where ethene has no alpha hydrogen so, it can not take part in hyperconjugation. Thus number of hyper conjugative structure is zero.
  • That's why ethene is less stable than propene.
