let root 2 is a rational no.so we can write root 2 =a/b where a&b are co- prime no.

s.b.s.
2b square=a square
b=asquare /2
2 divides a square
therefore 2divides a also

2b square/4=c square
b square/2=c square
2 divides b square
therefore 2 divides b also
this contradiction is due to wrong assumption.
