Then, the base and perpendicular will be equal.
Let perpendicular=x and hypotenuse=y

(base)²+(perpendicular)²=(hypotenuse)²
x²+x²=y²
y²=2x²
y=√2x
Then,
coses45˚=y/x
=√2x/x
=√2
