♦ Let 1 + √2 = a/b [ form of rational number ]
=> √2 = a/b - 1
=> √2 = a - b/b
Here, in LHS we have √2 which is an irrational number whereas in RHS we have a rational number.
Therefore, our assumption is wrong.
Hence, 1 + √2 is an irrational number.
