Q.) Prove 4/5 is irrational

Proof :-

Let us assume on the contrary that 4/5 is a rational number

Then it is of the form p/q , where p and q are integers and q =/= 0

So , 4/5 = p/q

=> 4q/p = 5 [ Cross Multiplication ]

=> 4q/p = 5

Here 4q/p is a rational number where p and q are integers

So , 5 is also a rational number

But it contradicts the fact that 5 is an irrational number

This Contradiction arose because of our wrong assumption that 4/5 is a rational number .

Hence it is an irrational number .
