Let the trapezium be ABCD
Draw one of the diagonals, eg:- BD to form 2 triangles, ABD & BDC.
Since the bases are parallel, the height for both triangles will be same.
Let the ht be h.
Adding areas of both triangles, you get
Area = ABD + BDC = (AB * h) / 2 + (CD * h) / 2 = (AB + CD)*h/2
