when n=2q
n(n-1)=2q(2q-1)
which is divisible by 2
when n=2q+1
n(n-1)=(2q+1)(2q+1-1)
=2q+1(2q)
n(n-1)=2q(2q-1)
which is divisible by 2
when n=2q+1
n(n-1)=(2q+1)(2q+1-1)
=2q+1(2q)
