let √5 is rational no. so

√5=a/b a and b are co prime)

squaring both sides 5= (a/b) whole square

so 5b2=A2

so 5 is factor of A2 so 5 is factor of a ......eq1

let a = k (k is any integer )

5b is factor of K2 so 5 is factor of k of 5 is factor of b

but we assumed that a and b are co prime

so it contradict our assumption so √5 is consider an irrational no.
