Let it be a rational which is equal to another rational I.e. a/b

1 root 2 = a/ b

root 2 = a/b /1

root 2 = a/b

since root 2 is an irrational and a/b is a rational it can never be equal

hence our assumption is wrong 1 root2 is irrational

1 root 2=a/b

root2=a/b/1

root 2=a/b

since root 2 is an irrational and a/b is rational it can never be equal
