If possible, let us assume
2+ root 5 is a rational number.
2+ root 5= p/q where p,q∈z,q not equals to 0
2− q/p =− root 5
2q−p /q =− root 5
⇒− root 5 is a rational number
∵2q−p /q is a rational number
But − root 5 is not a rational number.
∴ Our supposition 2+ root 5 is a rational number is wrong.⇒2+ root 5 is an irrational number.
