Let ABC be a triangle and E be the mid point of its side AB

Draw EX parallel to BC,so as to cut the side AC at F.

by basic proportionality theorem

AE = AF

EB FC

Since E is the mid point of AB, AE = 1

EB

.. AF = 1 , AF=FC

FC

F is the mid point of AC

Hence the line EX, which is parallel to the side BC, bisects the side AC at F
