Answer:impulse means large force applied in short interval of time.

e.g., I = F.∆t -------(1)

we know, according to Newton's second law, force is equal to change in momentum per unit time .

e.g., F = ∆P/∆t -------(2)

from equations (1) and (2)

I = ∆P

Hence, impulse received during an impact is equal to total change in momentum produced during the impact.
