Prove with an experiment that air or some material medium is required for propagation of sound

bell , vaccum remover , air tight container
. take the bell and connect it we can here the sound very clearly
. now take a container and put the bell inside it
. now take all the air from the container
. we can find the sound gets fainter and fainter and hence it will stop at once



so medium is needed for propagation of sound

Answer:

Take a bell jar and suspend an electric bell in it from the stopper of it. Now the bell rings when you connected to the battery. Close the mouth of bell jar with the stopper. You will be able to hear the bell when it's switched on. Now, use a vacuum pump to evacuate the air inside the bell jar. As the air is being removed, the sound keeps getting feeble and finally you will not be able to listen to the bell. It indicates that when all the air has been removed, then there is no sound. Thai proves that sound needs a medium to propagate.
