Answer:

let us assume that √2 is rational

then √2 = a/b

b√2 = a

squaring on both sides

a² = 2b²

if 5 divides a then 5 also divides b

a = 2c

squaring on both sides

a²=4c²

2b²=4c²

b²=4c²

here a,b,c have 2 as common factor

so,2 is rational number

but √2 is irrational

this contradiction has arrisen due to our incorrect assumption

this contadicts the fact that√2 is irrational
