The kind of tissue found as gritty masses in the pulp of pears are sclereids. Sclereids are the tiny fiber-like strands of the sclerenchyma cells. They are permanent tissues. Sclerenchyma tissues are supportive tissues in plants their cell walls consist of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose.
