answer
So in 3 minutes A fills 3/12 = 0,25 or a quarter of the tank leaving 3/4 or 0,75 still to do
both Pumps A and B in 1 minute can do
1/12 + 1/24 = 0,0833 + 0,04167 = 0,125
total minutes A and B = 1/0,125 = 8 minutes
however they only have 3/4 of the job to do
8 x 0,75 = 6 minutes
but A already worked 3 minutes before this so
total time to finished = 6 + 3 = 9 minutes
