• Main constituent of potato is carbohydrates. i.e. starch.
• Iodine test is used for detection of starch in a solution.
• Iodine solution in presence of starch turns blue-black while in absence of starch it remains unchanged (brown).
• When iodine solution is added to cut potato, it turns black due to presence of starch in it.
