Acharya Atre and R.D. Bhandare moved a resolution in Mumbai Municipal Corporation for Samyukta Maharashtra.

The objectives of samyukta Maharashtra movement were to unite the people of the state that was developed on the linguistic criteria.

Also, the social-economic conditions of the state influenced the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.

Another thing is that Maharashtra economy was dependent on the Bombay Metropolitan region that has approximately 65 per cent of factory workers and 75 per cent of industrial activities.

Then, Prabodhankar Thackeray, Acharya Atre, Shahir Amar Shaikh and Senapati Bapat founded the organization.
