Answer

(i) First we need to find the HCF of 171, 63 and 27.

There are two methods to do so.

Method 1

171 = 3×3×19

63 = 3×3×7

27 = 3×3×3

HCF of 171, 63 and 27 is '3' since thats the highest number that is common among all the numbers.

Method 2

\begin{array}{r | l}  3 & 171,63,27 \\ \cline{2-2}  3 &  57, 21, 9 \\ \cline{2-2}  & 19,7,3 \\  \end{array}

HCF of 171, 63 and 27 is 3×3 = 9

∴The HCF of 171, 63 and 27 is 9.

∴ The largest number of gift bags that can be packed is 9.

(ii) Since the largest number of gift bags that can be packed is 9, we have to divide 9 by all the numbers to find the answer.

171÷9 = 19

63÷9 = 7

27÷9 = 3

∴There are 19 pens, 7 pencils and 3 erasers in each gift bag.
