(b)Blood Basics. Blood is a specialized body fluid. It has four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

(c)Those absorbed by the digestive tract are transported in the blood plasma. These include glucose, amino acids, fats, cholesterol, phospholipids, vitamins and minerals. Some oxygen and carbon dioxide are transported by plasma.

(d)The cellular portion of blood contains red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs) and platelets. The RBCs carry oxygen from the lungs. The WBCs help to fight infection, and platelets are parts of cells that the body uses for clotting. All blood cells are produced in the bone marrow.
