Beat Phenomenon is physically meaningful only when there is superimposition of 2 progressive waves having comparable frequency.

Let's consider 2 waves :

1) \: y = a \sin \{ (\omega1)t - kx \}

2) \: y = a \sin \{ (\omega2)t - kx \}

Let the difference of the frequency of these waves differ atmost by 10 Hz.

Then , superimposition of this waves will lead to to periodic changes in the amplitude of the final wave. This phenomenon is called Beats.

The beat frequency will be :

 \sf{ \therefore \: n =  \dfrac{ \omega2 -  \omega1}{2\pi} }

 \sf{  =  >  \: n =  \dfrac{ \omega2 }{2\pi} -  \dfrac{ \omega1}{2\pi}  }

 \sf{  =  >  \: n = f2  - f1  }

Hence , beat frequency is

  \boxed{ \red{\rm{ \: n = f2  - f1  }}}
