Q.1. Read the passage carefully. (20)
Ghost have always intrigued and fascinated me. The National library where I live is supposed to
be a heaven for ghosts. It is the largest library in India and was the winter house of the British.
There are innumerable stories about ghosts haunting this place. Gate keepers on night duty have
seen a carriage of the British times and it’s not that they were mistaken as to the period to which
the carriage belonged. The 'chowkidaars' have also been witness to a party. They claim to have
seen English couples dancing during one of their balls. it is a possibility that the chaukidar were
drunk but it is not possible that all the chaukidar had the same vision. There is also a tunnel
which goes underground and opens out into the red room of fort William. There is a massive tree
here which lord Dalhousie spirit is supposed to haunt I do not know why, when he has the whole
library to himself. My early childhood was spent here and I have not seen anything which
suggests that a ghost lives here. but these kind of stories will be told and retold and people will
wonder at them. People may not believe these stories but would any sane person like to venture
out to the library at night? I wouldn't.
