Concept

The Theorem used for right angle triangle to find the sides of the right angle where the Square of the side is equal to the sum of the square of other two sides.

Given

1. sides of triangle given are 15 and 12

2. sides of the triangle given are 8 and 15

3. sides of the triangle given are 16 and 12

4. sides of the triangle given are 13 and 12

5. sides of the triangle given are 10 and 8

Find

We need to find the following sides

1. Base

2. Hypotenuse

3.Hypotenuse

4. Base

5. Perpendicular

Solution

1.  We know that the sides of triangles given are 15 and 12 which are perpendicular and hypotenuse

Let the value of base be x

So , by Pythagoras theorem

(x)^2=(15)^2-(12)^2\\

  x^2 = 255-144\\= 81

x^2=81\\x=9

The distance between Lia and Allen is 9m

2. We know that the sides of triangles given are 8 and 15  which are perpendicular and base

Let the value of the hypotenuse by x

So by Pythagoras theorem

x^2 = (8)^2+(15)^2\\ = 64+225\\= 289\\x^2= 289\\x=17

The distance between Trisha and Heather is 17m

3.We know that the sides of triangles given are 16 and 12  which are perpendicular and base

Let the hypotenuse be x

So by Pythagoras theorem

x^2 = (16)^2+(12)^2\\x^2 = 400\\x = 20

The distance between Winchester and Ashland  is 20km

4. We know that the sides of triangles given are 13 and 12  which are Hypotenuse and perpendicular

Let the Base be x

So by Pythagoras theorem

x^2 = (13)^2-(12)^2\\x^2 = 25\\x = 5 feet

The acorn from the base of the tree is 5 feet

5. We know that the sides of triangles given are 13 and 12  which are Hypotenuse and base

Let the perpendicular be x

So by Pythagoras theorem

x^2= (10)^2 -(8)^2\\x^2 = 36\\x = 6

The distance of Bella's house from school is 6km
